SPYDER ANNOUNCES PFAS-FREE FUTURE FOR THE BRAND

The brand will launch PFAS-free products beginning in Fall 2024

(BOULDER COUNTY, COLORADO) - (Date TBD) – Spyder, one of the world’s most recognizable outdoor and active lifestyle brands, today announced that all branded skiwear will be Per and Polyfluorinated substance (PFAS) free, beginning in Fall 2024. With this announcement, the brand introduces its new innovations in waterproof materials and Durable Water Repellent (DWR), allowing outdoor enthusiasts to experience unparalleled protection against the elements.

PFAS pose an immediate threat to air, water and consumer product safety. Marking a pivotal move for the brand, Spyder deployed an initial assessment of its products, which resulted in a multiple season plan to phase out PFAS from its branded skiwear. Leading the industry forward, Spyder will continue to work with fabric partners to find alternative treatments that do not interfere with the brand’s science of speed.

Spyder built the new process into their existing raw material selection and commercialization procedures, ensuring the top quality of material performance and compliance. Since its inception, Spyder has committed itself to serving the consumer, placing their needs and experiences at the forefront of every decision. The company’s dedication is evident in the purposeful design of its products and is continually adapting to early cutting-edge technologies for unparalleled speed, warmth and protection.

“We are extremely proud to announce that Spyder will now be PFAS-free,” said Brady Collings, General Manager, Spyder. “This decision is a big deal for the active and outdoor industry and we’re proud to be at the forefront. We look forward to taking the next step in providing high-quality products that are better for the environment.”

The brand’s commitment to progress is further underscored by its integration of advancements like EXO Shield, GridWeb, Shell Fleece and other groundbreaking technologies. Notably, Spyder’s ethos extends beyond performance alone, aligning their products with ethical and environmental values. This mission reflects Spyder’s ongoing pursuit of excellence and the embodiment of a brand dedicated to doing what is right for both its consumers and the planet.

"At Spyder we believe in technology and innovation, and recently we've focused that energy on lessening the impact that our products have on the planet.” Said Bryhn Ireson, VP of Product, Spyder. “This move to PFAS-free materials is a big step in that direction."

With a hyper-focus on product testing and innovation, Spyder looks forward to introducing PFAS-free branded skiwear and its new materials innovations in Fall 2024.
